TRAINING

The philosophy behind the Team NAM training program is "FORESEEING Your Future", based on the following 4 Cs:

  • Committing to a long or short-term fitness or racing goal.  Individual participant commitment is the premier determinant to his or her training success, above and beyond what Team NAM has to offer.
  • Caring for injuries and physical development of body.  An injured runner will inevitably turn in the worst performance on race day.
  • Coaching instructions for endurance training.  Top performance is intricately tied to knowledge in physiology, running form, and racing strategy. 
  • Conditioning to go the distance.  This is where the rubber meets the road, to build stronger and fitter bodies, and Team NAM provides the setting and camaraderie to help achieve peak conditioning through group running and pacing.

Coaching instructions are provided by the Efficient Marathon Basic Elements, regular emails, group presentations, and individual guidance.  Team social events offer opportunities to discuss aspects of running and training in a less breath-taking forum and environment.  Conditioning ties closely to coaching instructions with a pinpoint focus on optimizing running efficiency with respect to step count and stride length.  The Team offers an approach to efficient running that is unmatched and not found in any other training program.  Although the Team's six-month program is specific and has a detailed time trial and route schedule for both marathoners and half marathoners on every Saturday long run, the training nonetheless offers flexibility to accommodate individual skills, capabilities, and rate of improvement.

The ultimate goal is to point walkers and runners in a direction of lifetime training and fitness.  Team NAM welcomes every endurance athlete from novices just wanting to finish a half marathon to the seasoned runners aiming to improve times or set PRs.
